Sara "Sally" (Herb) Yoder

Mount Carmel – Sara “Sally” Yoder, The Butterfly Lady, 99, formerly of 201 W Mulberry Street, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Mount Carmel Nursing Home.

Born in Shamokin on February 29, 1924 to the late Donald and Alberta Rosetta (Haas) Herb. She attended Shamokin Area Schools. She worked as a seamstress at Arrow Shirt Factory.

On July 20, 1946 she married Raymond Hoffa, and later she married Denver Yoder in 1976.

She had been an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School. She had been a member of the choir, as well as a member of the Mary Martha Circle.

Sara enjoyed spending time with her family, and of course, going to the casinos.

She loved celebrating her “Leap Year” birthday every 4 years and was looking forward to her “25th” Birthday in February.

Sara is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Knopp and her husband, Chauncey, and Charmaine Smith and her husband, Barry; a step-son, Robin Yoder and his wife, Sharon; three grandsons, Kristopher Smith and his wife, Alexandra, Timothy Knopp and his wife, Tarah, and Ryan Yoder and his wife, Katie; two granddaughters, Stacey (Shay) Forsythe and her husband, Robert, and Amy Seddon and her husband, Kyle; six great grandsons, Wyatt Smith, Ian Shay, Joseph Knopp, Zachary Seddon, Ray Seddon, and Roan Yoder; three great granddaughters, Samantha Knopp, Olivia Shay, and Emma Shay; a step great grandson, Shane Forsythe; a brother, Bob W. Herb of Shamokin; a sister, Sandra VanDenberg of AZ; and many Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. In addition to her parents and husbands, Sara was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Jones and her husband, Paul and Kathryn Weller; two brothers, Don J. Herb and Edward Herb; and two brothers-in-law, Tennyson Weller and Ted VanDenberg.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Sara “Sally” Yoder, 99, Mount Carmel Nursing – Memorial service will be held Friday, May 5, 2023 at 11:00 am with Pastor Sarah Hershberger, officiating at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shamokin. Visitation will be held in the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 10 South 7th Street, Shamokin, PA, 17872. To send condolences to the family please visit www.farrowfh.com
