Rubyanne S. Burt

October 9, 1942 — December 26, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Rubyanne S. Burt, 82, of Coal Township on December 26th after a brief battle with cancer.

Ruby was born on October 9, 1942.  She was the daughter of the late Robert and Rubymae (Landau) Shuman.  She is survived by a son, Mattison A. Burt lll and his wife Kristen (Voorhees) Burt of Ithaca NY; a daughter, Victoria Burt-Jones and her husband, Noel Jones of Dornsife; two grandsons, Ethan Burt and Aidan Burt; two granddaughters, Kelsey Burt and Ashley Burt.  In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her two brothers, Harry J. Shuman and Gene Shuman.

Ruby was a proud graduate of Coal Township High School class of 1960 and attended Goldey-Beacom College.  Ruby was employed by Representative Merle Phillips before she became the Victim-Witness Coordinator for Northumberland County Courts.  Ruby also served on the Northumberland County Juvenile Court Advisory Board and devoted time volunteering for N.O.D.A.  (No One Dies Alone)

One of Ruby’s greatest attributes was her ability to capture the attention and hearts of others. Ruby had an incredible personality that one rarely forgot. She will be fondly remembered for her many outlandish and memorable stories and life experiences.

Ruby found great pleasure in watching the Susquehanna River flow south to Harrisburg, along with watching the many runners, cyclists and others who would stroll past her cottage on the Isle of Que. She immensely enjoyed adding to her ever-expanding shoe and hair brush collections!

At the request of Ruby, a private celebration of her life will be held with family.  Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township.  In lieu of flowers, Ruby has asked donations be made to Juvenile Court Advisory Board c/o Northumberland County Juvenile Court in Ruby’s name.  Donation will go toward scholarships for deserving students. Address for donations, Juvenile Probation: 322 N 2nd Street, 2nd Floor, Sunbury PA 17801. Arrangements are being cared for by Farrow-Campbell Funeral & Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, PA, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor.
