Shamokin – Mary Bernice T. Pflug, 76, of 427 N Washington Street, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023 at her home.
She was born in Philadelphia on February 21, 1947 to the late William and Sarah (Lynch) Pierce. She was an Elementary School Teacher at Transfiguration. She was a member of Mother Cabrini Church.
She married Russell Shangle, who preceded her in death.
Mary Bernice is survived by a daughter, Natalie Hornberger of Shamokin; a son, Douglas “Doug” Piper and his wife, Shannon of Sunbury; seven grandsons, Richard Hornberger, Noah Miller, Christian Westoskie, Logan Piper, Seth Piper, Ethen Price, and Ralin Piper; six granddaughters, Kylie Piper, Raven Hornberger, Taylor Hornberger, Piper Hornberger, Violet Piper, and Lily Piper; three great grandsons, Conner Ebbecke, Gunner Kleman, and Russell Kleman; great granddaughter, Charlotte Belk; brother, Robert Pierce and his wife of Florida; two sisters, Sallyann Mossman of York, and Nancy Barth and her husband, Joseph of DE; niece, Kathy Barth; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Heinz Pflug; son, Timothy Piper; three brothers, William Pierce and his wife, Ann, Jack Pierce, and infant brother, Ernie Pierce; and brother-in-law, Richard Mossman.
