Mary J. (Thomas) Polek

Shamokin

Shamokin – Mary J. Polek, 98, formerly of 430 Overlook Blvd, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, January 21, 2024.

Mary loved her family, church, neighborhood and home in Overlook of 60 years. She left a beautiful legacy and example, including years of sharing the gospel with local children at Good News Club, and taught Sunday School for many years. She especially loved being with her six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Born on in Shamokin on November 25, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Alfred J. and Hilda (Renn) Thomas. She graduated from Coal Township High School. Mary was a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Company. After she retired, she worked seasonally at Knoebel’s Amusement Resort.

She married Alphonse R. Polek, on June 17, 1950 in Shamokin, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Elysburg Alliance Church, and maintained her walk with her Lord even when she was unable to attend. She was active in the Christian Women’s Club.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Susan Racilla and her husband, John of Hummelstown, and Sally Parsons and her husband, Richard of Paxinos; four grandsons, Andrew Racilla and his wife, Emily, and Jared Racilla and his fiancé, Katie, Chase Parsons, and Colin Parsons and his wife, Amber; two granddaughters, Alison Adams and her husband, Brandon, and Lauren Parsons and her fiancé, Blake; three great grandsons, Weston Parsons, Wyatt Adams, and Jedrek Racilla; five great granddaughters, Ivy Adams, Eliana Racilla, Katy Jo Parsons, Norah Adams, and Vera Racilla; a sister, Carol Mangle and her husband, Jack of Elysburg; a brother-in-law, Joseph Polek; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as her dear neighbors, Cheryl and Lennie Waugh. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by, two sisters, Jeanne Appel and her husband, Richard, and Nancy Jones and her husband, Paul.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Mary J. Polek, 98, Mount Carmel Nursing and Rehab – Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11:00 am with Pastor Andrew Knisely, at Elysburg Alliance Church, 113 Alpha Ave, Elysburg. Visitation will be held in the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be held following the service at Northumberland Memorial Park, Sunbury. Arrangements are being cared for by Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Pennsylvania.
