Shamokin – Maria L. Slavinsky, 59, of 24 S. 7th Street, passed away February 24, 2021 in her home.
Born on July 9, 1961 in Leyte, Philippines, she was the daughter of Cipriano and Bibiana (Custodio) Paghubasan, who survive.
She married Michael Slavinsky on December 28, 1983, and worked various jobs while being a military spouse. When she was younger, she received an Associate’s Degree in Telecommunications, and worked briefly in that field, and enjoyed both bowling and pool leagues. She also worked locally at Paper Magic prior to its closure, and then retired to enjoy spending time with family, friends, the community, and living life going on trips with minimal planning. Maria was involved in the community prior to getting ill. She was involved with the American Legion in Kulpmont, assisting with planning the Christmas and Easter parties for kids. She was also historically a member of the Independence in Shamokin, The Redman in Shamokin, and the Pastime in Shamokin, the VFW in Kulpmont, and was a member of various pool and dart teams. In addition to traveling, she enjoyed dancing, shopping, gambling, and was known to be a social butterfly. She was practicing Catholic, and attended the Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukranian Catholic Church and attended mass when she was healthy enough to do so.
In addition to her parents, Maria is survived by her two daughters, Alixevette Solstice of Shamokin, Anna Zimmerman and her husband, Jason of Silver Spring, Maryland, and her stepdaughter Michelle Slavinsky of Kulpmont; and her many grandchildren who she loved and frequently thought about. Maria was preceded in death by her husband. She was a positive light to those that were around her, and will be missed by all who knew her.

Maria L. Slavinsky, 59, of 24 S 7th Street, Shamokin – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private viewing will be held for family at their convenience. A separate public viewing for friends and acquaintances who would like to say goodbye to Maria will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor. As she was a two-time kidney transplant recipient which gave her additional years of life, in lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Gift of Life Donor Program at www.donors1.org.
