Jeffrey E Fromm

Shamokin – Jeffrey E. Fromm, 66, of 130 Sunbury Street, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Manor Care in Sunbury.

Born on June 10, 1955, in Sunbury, PA, he was the son of the late Albert and Vera (Powell) Fromm. He graduated from Milton High School in 1974.

On December 21, 1991, in Williamsburg, VA, Jeff married Barbara Moyer, who survives. He worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) at Allenwood, Lewisburg, and Schuylkill. Jeff was a trustee and member of the First United Methodist Church in Shamokin, appointed to the BOP Community Relations Board, President of the Shamokin City Planning Commission, member of the Milton and Shamokin Rotary Organization, a 32nd Degree Mason, part of the Williamsport Consistory, a member of the Goodwill Hose Company of Sunbury, the Northumberland Hook and Ladder Company, and the Shamokin Independence Fire Company.

Jeff grew up in Lewisburg, PA, and was raised on the reservation at Lewisburg, as his father was a correctional officer at Lewisburg Federal Correctional Institute. Following high school graduation, Jeff worked for a number of companies and soon decided to start his own business. Fromm Security in Milton provided security to many companies and businesses throughout the area and at one time had 28 employees. After selling Fromm Security, Jeff earned his paralegal certification from Penn State University. He spent time working as a Northumberland County Deputy Sheriff and as a United States Marshal guard providing court security and transportation of federal prisoners. In 1989, Jeff began work as a paralegal specialist at FPC Allenwood where he was also an assistant team leader as a hostage negotiator. He was also a member of the first SORT(Special Operations Response Team) and was certified in the use of the AR 15, 12 gauge shotgun, and 9 millimeter gas pistol. Jeff continued his paralegal career at FCI Lewisburg, Allenwood, and Schuylkill. After retiring in 2012, Jeff returned to work as a correctional officer at Northumberland County Prison. Jeff became good friends with many of his co-workers, enjoyed all things BOP, and getting together with his “brothers.”

Following the tragedy of September 11th, Jeff became very interested in anti-terrorist security. He designed, developed, and received patents for an anti-terrorist/ rapid deployment barrier to protect military and civilian personnel. He also developed and received a patent for the Fromm 0100 Dashboard Mounted Personal Ballistic Shield to protect law enforcement officers in their vehicles. Jeff took pride in his work but enjoyed life and his family even more. When Barbara and Jeff married, Jeff became a truly devoted husband who supported Barbara in whatever she wanted to accomplish. There was no one in this world like Barbara to Jeff, and he showed that as the best husband and supporter. Golfing with his Dad, attending Phillies games with his daughter Jill, spending time at the Delaware beaches with Barbara, Sharon and Gary, enjoying a great dinner at Ghezzi’s with friends, going to the firing range with his buddy Chuck, and many dinners at Annamae’s were some of his favorite activities. He always looked forward to playing backyard soccer with his grandchildren and enjoying Joel’s home cooked home fries. Jeff loved all of his cousins and traveling to Italy with Barbara to visit his family meant the world to him. He loved his role of big brother to Kim and he looked on his nephew Sean as a son. Jeff would joke that the sister-in-law he was with at the moment was his “favorite.” But each of them felt that they were. Jeff enjoyed singing in the choir at First United and would turn to his choir members after each number and say, “We nailed it,” to the amusement of all. Stepping out of his comfort zone, Jeff joined ACT (Anthracite Community Theater) and starred in Arsenic and Old Lace, and, much to his surprise, he was a natural. Rubyanne and Linda were always a source of great laughter and deep friendship and Jeff enjoyed bragging about all of the accomplishments of his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Always community minded, Jeff arranged several Shamokin cemetery clean-up projects using Federal prisoner volunteers, participated in downtown beautification efforts, and advanced the development of a Shamokin hotel.

Jeff was a true Hardy Boy and impacted many lives, but none so much as his beloved wife Barbara and his loving daughter Jill and her family. From Jeff’s perspective, no matter what was happening or whatever the weather, one of his favorite phrases was, “It’s a beautiful day.” And it certainly was with Jeff in it. In addition to his wife, Jeffrey is survived by a daughter, Jill Mayer and her husband, Joel of NJ; two granddaughters, Avery Mayer, and Sydney Mayer; a grandson, Graham Mayer; a sister, Lisa Fromm; four sisters-in-law, Sharon Strausser of MD, Michele Moyer-Bruce and her husband, James of Shamokin, Kim Moyer and her husband, Stephen Gosper of FL, and Helen Fromm of Port Royal; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Jeffrey was preceded in death by a brother, Alan Fromm; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Norma (Kramer) Moyer; and a brother-in-law, Gary Strausser.

Jeffrey E. Fromm, 66, of 130 E Sunbury Street, Shamokin – Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Joan Brown, officiating at Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor. Viewing will be held on Monday January 31, 2022, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Tuesday February 1, 2022 from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service at 11:00 am.
