James R. Matthews

Coal Township - James R. Matthews, Sr. 78, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

James was born in Newark, NJ on May 4, 1943 to the late Leonard Matthews and Edith Derck.

On April 22, 1978 in Shamokin, he married Marijane Straub, who survives. James was also a member of the Calvary Bible Fellowship and a life member of the Independence Fire Company. He worked as a truck driver for most of his life and later worked as a dishwasher for Brewsers in Coal Township.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by four children, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a brother.
