Shamokin – Horst Heinrich Adam, 87, of 987 Hollow Road, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023

at his home surrounded by his sister and her family.

Born in StefhansKirchen, Germany on June 14, 1935, he was the son of the late Hans and Marianne E. L.

(Lochmann) Adam.

He married Hilda “Annie” Adam, who preceded him in death.

Horst served 21 years in the United States Army, was in the 82nd Airborne Assn., honorably discharged in

1973 as Master Sergeant. Over the course of those 21 years, he went on two tours to Vietnam, served in the

Korean war, and was involved in the1965 uprising of the Dominican Republic. He earned many honors

including:

National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star

Expert Badge with Pistol and Carbine Bars

Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle and Mortar Bars

He was extremely proud to be a United States citizen and serve his beloved country.

Horst then returned to the public workforce and served 28 years as Chief of Energy for the United States Air

Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He continued to live in Colorado after retirement, but 2

years later suffered a stroke. He then came to Pennsylvania in 2010 after his wife passed to reside with his

sister and brother-in-law who lovingly assisted and cared for him for the past 12 years.

He was proud to be a veteran and was a life member of the V.F.W., the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the

American Legion.

He was of Lutheran faith.

We will miss him immensely.

Horst is survived by a daughter, Susan Angello and husband Joe, grandchildren Chloe, Joseph and

Nickolous Angello, three great grandchildren, a son Richard Adam, a sister, Ilse Selma Venn; two nieces,

Linda Kay (Venn) Cavanaugh and her husband, Shawn of Shamokin, their daughter Amanda Cavanaugh

and her husband Billy Stump of Ashburn, Virginia, and Diana Margaret Louise (Venn) Ginitz and her

husband, Victor, their daughter Nina Ginitz of Shamokin. In addition to his wife and parents, he was

preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ronald Harrison Venn, who Horst sadly missed after his death June

21, 2022.
