Coal Township – Goldie May Kerstetter, 97, of 101 N Ash Street, formerly of 215 Center Street, Tharptown., passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Mount Carmel Senior Living Community, where she has resided since 2017.
Born in Shamokin on June 13, 1926 she was the only child of the late George and Susan (Hornberger) Bixler. She graduated from Coal Township High School in 1944.
On June 28, 1947 she married John “Jack” Kerstetter, who preceded her in death on October 23, 1989. Together they shared 42 years of marriage. She retired from First National Bank in June 1988. She was a lifelong member of Salem United Church of Christ.
Goldie is survived by two sons, Donald Kerstetter of Shamokin, and David Kerstetter and his wife, Gemma of Elysburg; a daughter, Charlotte Vanaskie and her husband, Michael of FL; four granddaughters, Amy Miller and her husband, Lance, Michelle Szekeres and her husband, Charlie, Katie Vanaskie and her husband, Dan, and Desiree Castro and her husband, Jimmy; two grandsons, Daniel Kerstetter and his wife, Holly, and John Kerstetter and his wife, Rosie; 13 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Goldie was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jeanne Kerstetter.
