Danville – Gilles “Gil” A. LaPointe Sr., 80, of 1262 Elysburg Road, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at his home. His wife Jennie was by his side as he was released from the pain of a lengthy illness.
Born in Sorel, Quebec, Canada on September 15, 1943 to the late Lucien and Donalda (Bourret) LaPointe, Gil grew up loving horses. He attended school in Canda and came to the United States to continue working with harness horses. Gil loved the Standardbreds and worked as a trainer/driver, stabling at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds. He raced horses on many tracks over the eastern United States.
Gil married Jennifer A. Reed on August 5, 2006 at the Reed Family Farm near Danville, PA. He retired from racing and began farming in 1990. Gil spent many years going to Shamokin Farmer’s Market to sell his delicious green beans and peas. Gil was widely known for his huge heart and his patience. He spent his entire life serving and caring for others. He was always looking to improve the quality of other person’s lives. His kind, gentle way, sprinkled liberally with his sense of humor, put everyone at ease.
In addition to his wife, Gilles is survived by a daughter, Michelle Santos and her husband, Luis; two sons, Gilles LaPointe Jr. and his wife, Nicole, and Daniel LaPointe and his wife, Kathy; one grandson, Devin Santos; one granddaughter, Briana Santos; Siblings, Paulette LaPointe, Roger LaPointe, Jacques LaPointe, Monique LaPointe, Lucien LaPointe, and Louis LaPointe; mother-in-law, Norma “Eloise” Reed; three sisters-in-law, Dr. Jill Reed, Jan Stefanick and her husband, Michael, and Dr. Jacqueline Rapp and her husband, Paul; and a brother-in-law, Jason Reed and his wife, Jennifer; extended family, Urania Rosario, Cristina Riendeau and her husband, Dan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
