Coal Township – Ethel “Marie” Erdman, 98, formerly of 1143 W Independence Street, went to her heavenly home on Monday, August 21, 2023. She had been a resident of Buffalo Valley Assisted Living in Lewisburg since October, 2021.
She was born in a log cabin in West Cameron Township, on September 1, 1924 to the late Melvin and Florence (Gottshall) Schleig. She graduated from West Cameron Township High School.
On August 2, 1941 in Trevorton she married Charles Marlin Erdman, who preceded her in death on April 30, 1989. Together they celebrated 47 years of marriage.
Marie was always happiest when she was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed spending time in her yard and grew the most beautiful flowers. Marie was a faithful follower of Jesus and lived her life to honor Him. She was one of the first members of Grace Independent Chapel, Overlook, where she served as the secretary to the Sunday School Superintendent for decades. She most recently attended Faith Bible Chapel, Burnside.
Outside of the home, Marie worked in area garment factories. Her last place of employment was at the Shamokin Area High School where she enjoyed being a teaching assistant for students with disabilities.
She is survived by a son, Terry Erdman and his wife Michele, Woodbine, MD; a daughter, Jennifer Woland and her husband, William, Watsontown; 16 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Linda Erdman, NJ, and Ethel Erdman Dinklocker, Shamokin and a sister-in-law, Arlene Griscavage. In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by four sons, Kenneth Erdman (Infant), Dennis Erdman, Ronald Erdman, and Charles M. Erdman and his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Nancy Madden; three sisters, Clarice Shaffer, Nedra “Nickie” Cecconi and her husband, Roland, and Joan Mensch; brother, Larry Schleig; and three great grandchildren.

Ethel Marie Erdman, 98, of 1143 W Independence Street, Coal Township – Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 at 11:30 AM with Elder David Auker, officiating at Grace Independent Chapel, 126 Airport Road, Shamokin, PA. Visitation will be held in the church from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. Burial will be held following the service at Northumberland Memorial Park. Arrangements are being cared for by Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, PA, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor.
