Shamokin – Dennis John Cavanaugh, 65, of 154 N 8th Street, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Shamokin on August 26, 1957 he was the son of the late James Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Cavanaugh. He graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes in 1976. He attended the University of Maryland. He served in the United States Army from 1976 - 1994.

On May 9, 1980 in Shamokin, he married Patrice Sugg, who survives. He attended Mother Cabrini Church. He worked at the Mahanoy State Prison as a corrections officer.

Dennis was an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed watching his grandchildren at all their activities.

In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by two sons, Derek Cavanaugh and his wife, Amanda of Hatfield, and Micheal Cavanaugh and his wife, Tyffanny of Coal Township; two daughters, Anna Hendricks and her husband, Jarrod of Philipsburgh, and Michelle Bellis and her husband, Lenny of Coal Township; five grandsons, Brayden Cavanaugh, Ben Cavanaugh, Lenny Bellis, Teddy Hendricks, and Beckham Cavanaugh; five granddaughters, Liela Bellis, Victoria Cavanaugh, Maura Bellis, Abby Hendricks, and Bailey Cavanaugh; two brothers, Francis Cavanaugh and his wife, Marilyn of Camp Hill, and Thomas Cavanagh and his wife, Mary of MI; a sister, Linda Klinger and her husband, David of Danville; two sisters-in-law, Janice Cavanaugh of Coopersburg, and Sue Cavanaugh of Harrisburg; brother-in-law, David Dormer of Locust Gap; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Dennis is preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Cavanaugh, and James Cavanaugh; and a sister, Cheryl Ann Dormer.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Dennis John Cavanaugh, 65, of 154 N. 8th Street, Shamokin – Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11:00 am with Thomas Smith, officiating at Oak Grove Methodist Church, airport road, Paxinos. Arrangements are being cared for by Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor.
