Shamokin – Alma T. Payne, 95, formerly of 181 E Dewart Street, died peacefully Monday, December 7, 2020 at Mount Carmel Nursing and Rehab Center where she resided since July.
She was born in Coal Township on October 14, 1925, the daughter of the late Isadore and Alexandra (Shizkowski) Salwocki. Alma graduated with honors from Coal Township High School in 1944.
Alma was married in the Episcopal church in Northumberland by Reverend Donald Whitesel. on February 15, 1953 to Arthur L. Payne, who preceded her in death on August 4, 1995.
She worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for over 25 years in various positions.
She was a member of the Resurrection Episcopal Mission Church in Mount Carmel and formerly Trinity Episcopal Church in Shamokin where she served as the Secretary for many years as well as being a member of the Vestry.
Alma is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Hoffa and her husband, William of Shamokin; three sons, Arthur Payne and his wife, Robin of TX, John Payne and his wife, Teresa of Elysburg, and Joseph Payne and his wife, Claire of VT; grandchildren, Joseph Payne and his wife, Jill of Eagleville, Atty Michelle Payne of Philadelphia, Matthew Payne of VA, and Brett Payne and his companion Lindsay Bailey of Danville; step-grandchildren, Bo, Annie, Emily and Morgan; step-great-grandchildren, Harper, Bode, Maximus, Livingston, Franco, and Giulian; a sister, Regina Donohue of NJ; brother-in-law, Arthur Martin of Shamokin; and many nieces, and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Alma was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Salwocki and his wife, Theresa; two sisters, Helen Daniels, and Eleanor Polastre and her husband, Joseph; and a sister-in-law, Mary Martin.

Payne, 95, 181 E Dewart Street, Shamokin – Graveside service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 10:00 am with Reverend Sarah Weedon, officiating at Odd Fellows Cemetery, 2400 Trevorton Road, Coal Township. Arrangements are being cared for by Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor.
